Finally on Sunday afternoon, it was time for the U/15 boys and girls to take to the courts. Mark White came up against Paul Doherty in the boys singles final. Both guys used the four corners of the court to try and outwit their opponent, but White began to take hold of the game and the title and went on to win 30-20.

On Sunday morning, the Terenure Badminton Centre was awash with eager U/11 badminton players. This age group in particular needs a lot of help to run as some of the players probably never played a badminton tournament before, so I must also thank those parents who helped to run some of the round robins around the courts.

Laois Championship Winners Ready for Leinster
Vicarstown Community Centre in Co. Laois was a hive of badminton activity this past weekend. Laois Badminton Association played their annual Graded Individual Championships from Grades 1 through 6 on Saturday and Sunday.

Owen Marron of St Benildus College Stillorgan made it a trice of titles at the Leinster U/17 Open in Baldoyle badminton centre last weekend. He secured his first title by playing his doubles partner Luke Moore (Sutton Park) in singles final. He eased by Moore in a straight sets win 21-6, 21-15.

A Leinster U/16 badminton side travels to York Railway Institute, this coming weekend (30th Nov -1st Dec) for the York Inter-counties Tournament. Seven top teams from England and Scotland will join Leinster in the individual and team tournament. The tournament is held over two days and begins with a round robin contest for places in the main event and there is a “B” event for those who don’t progress.
