Irish Senior Badminton Championships in Baldoyle was a great success with defending championship Scott Evans meeting Lisburns Michael Watt in the final of the men’s singles. Watt, 9 times previous singles winner, was up against youth and skill of Evans who is currently training in Copenhagen.

With a late change to the Irish U/17 team, who were playing in the Quad against, England, Scotland and Wales prior to last weekend? Although Ireland took a heavy defeat in their opening match against England loosing 7-2, with Raphoe, s (Donegal) Sam Magee winning the only 2 matches, his singles and mixed match with Lisburns Sinead Chambers. Hannah Orr (Lisburn) replaced Norma McIntyre on the team who was injured and could not Travel.

A number of competitors traveled from Ulster, Galway, Sligo, Clare, Wexford, Kildare, Meath and Dublin to play in the Leinster U/15 Open. By the end of this month all the U/15 Players will be tired playing against each other as they will meet again next week in the Ulster U/15 Open and once again in the U/15 Nationals on the ¾ Feb 07 back in Dublin, this time in Baldoyle Centre.

Leinster Senior Close was cancelled from late November 06 because it clashed with the Irish U/17 Nationals. It was re-scheduled for Saturday 6th Jan 07. This time round there was a reasonable entry from all over Leinster. Tournament organizer Amanda Mullery worked hard on the day to keep everything running on time as the Finals were scheduled for 6 pm, she had the assistance of Martyn Evans and Mark Topping throughout the day.

A big crowd from all over Leinster descended on the Terenure Badminton Centre on Sat 30th December for the Finals of all the Age groups. The early rounds had been played on the preceding days leading up to the finals. All the competitors plus their parents, grandparents and friends gave the badminton center a great atmosphere for the finals day.

At the U/13's, there was as much energy in these matches as you would see in any of the age groups. Liam O Leary and Louise Griffin made it all the way to 3 finals each.
