The home favourites have failed to make it through to the semi finals at the Yonex Irish International Badminton Championships but Irish number one Chloe Magee managed to secure her Olympic qualification for London 2012. Chloe Magee achieved her womens singles quarter final target to confirm her Olympic qualification for London 2012 despite losing out to former world number one PI Honygan of France. Chloe missed out on a place in the semi finals losing a very tight three set match to the number one seed 21-11, 15-21, 21-17. Chloe, partnering her brother Sam Magee also lost out on a semi final place in the mixed doubles after losing in straight sets to Denmark's Rasmus Bonde and Maria Helsbol 21-13, 21-10. Chloe said, “Hongyan is a world class player and it was my best performance against her. After winning the second set I felt I had a chance but I started the third set a bit slowly and she managed to just stay a head of me. Overall I was happy with my performance here in Lisburn but obviously a bit disappointed with the results in the mixed doubles”. It has been a strong tournament for representatives from England with Rajiv Ouseph reaching the mens singles final where he will play the number two seed Przemyslaw Wacha from Poland. Heather Olver and Marcus Ellis will play Selena Piek and Dave Khodabux of the Netherlands in the mixed finals. Olver will also be in action in the womens doubles final, partnering Marina Agathangelou while Peter Mills and Marcus Ellis will play Adam Cwalina and Michal Logosoz from Poland in the mens doubles final. In the womens singles final the number two seed Carolina Marin of Spain will play Hsiao Ma Pai from Chinese Taipei. Written by Richard Vaughan(BI Ceo)
