In the Boys Singles both boys walked onto to court to a loud applause. The opening set was played at a cagey pace with Doyle using too much energy too early in the match, Doyle won the 1st set 21-13, but Cox who recently returned from an U/16 York tournament was going to show his experience in this match. With the middle set being possibly the big decider, Cox dug in and won it with a tight score of 21-19. Cox went on to take the 3rd and the title 21-14.
Like the boys there was 2 girls who also were in a trice of finals. Sofia Brondum took on High Schools Aoife Loftus in the girl’s singles. Although Loftus pushed the shuttle to all the open spaces on the court, Brondum reacted with deft returns.
Brondum won the 1st of her titles 21-12,21-16, but Loftus had 2 more finals to play in but unfortunately they would be against the Loreto girl.
The Terenure boys were back out on court again for the boy’s doubles, with their respective partners. Cox was with High Schools Cian Mc Donagh and Doyle was with St Benildus David Marron.Cox claimed his 2nd title by beating Doyle and Marron 21-15,21-18.Likewise Brondum and Loftus donned the courts again in the girl’s doubles. Loftus partnered by St Mary’s Glasinevin, s Graine Murray took on Brondum and Wexfords Eimear Dunne. Once again Brondum claimed her 2-nd title 21-14,21-14.
The Final match of this age group was the Mixed Final. Questions were being asked would Cox and Brondum do the treble or would Doyle and Loftus go home with no Silverware. This time round Brondum and Doyle were playing against Loftus and Cox.
Brondum secured her treble and Doyle got something when they went on to win the mixed doubles title by winning 21-17,21-15.
