U16 Leinster Spring Juvenile Open Terenure Centre 13-3-2010
Lisburn Badminton Club show their tallent......
The U16 Spring Juvenile Open was held on Saturday afternoon. In the boys section both the Singles and Doubles went per the seeding with Lisburn’s Martin Lau (1) meeting fellow club mate Matthew Getty (2) in boy’s singles final. Lau dominated the court in the first set with the very talented Getty trying everything in his armoury trying to out wit his opponent, Lau took the opener 21-13. Getty came out fighting in the second set but Lau on this appearance was too strong, winning the title 21-11.
Both Lisburn club mates teamed up to take on the No.2 seeds, Knocklyons David Neylon and Mark White in the boy’s doubles final. Although the opener was a great battle the Northerners took the set 21-19.Neylon and White discussed a different game plan at the break, but on the day Lau and Getty took the second set and the prize, 21-9. Niall Leahy took the singles plate title.
Sisters act two!! Rebecca Getty (Matthew younger sister) met Rachael Boyle (Sara older Sister) in the final of the girls U16 singles final. Rebecca continued the Lisburn winning ways by winning the first set 21-10. After the break Rachael came out fighting for every point and rallied her opponent, although it was a much closer set, on the day Rebecca took her only title of the day (21-18).
Rachael was disappointed but then teamed up with her doubles partner Aisling Golden to play against fellow Dubliner’s Ciana Diskin and Danielle Neil in the girls doubles final. Rachael and Aisling took the opener 21-18 and Ciana and Danielle played a very cute game of badminton and won a close middle set 20-22. Rachael and Aisling regrouped and went on to take the final set and the title 21-14.
