U14 Leinster Spring Juvenile Open 14-3-2010

Ciara from Ennis takes both titles.......

The U14 Spring Juvenile Open was held on Sunday Morning in the Terenure Centre. Wexford’s Noel Dunne and No.1 seed raced to the final and his opponent was Satchal Madden who earlier had beaten the No.2 seed William Eickholt in a three set epic. Noel raced off to a great lead in the opening set and I think Satchal was a little overcome as this was his first singles final. Noel took the first set 21-4 but Satchal began to settle into the second set as he began to rally his Wexford opponent. Noel had to work harder in this set but eventually took the title 21-14 but I hope Satchal has gained experience in his game for his next big tournament.

The boy’s doubles was run in a 2 group round robin with winners of group (A) Dublin and St Colmcille C.C. students Kevin O’Reilly and Adam Raitt meeting winners of group (B) Wexford’s Declan Carroll and Jack Dunne. This was a fabulous final with the Dublin pairing narrowly winning the title 30-29. James Poole won the boys singles plate final.

Ennis girl Ciara Dwyer worked very hard to make it to the Girls U14 singles final were she met the Leinster No.1 seed Sara Boyle. The Colaiste Muire girl had the more difficult side of the draw with an extra game than Sara and a three set thriller semi-final against the talented Sligo lefthander Fionnuala Scanlon. Ciara continued her good steady play against the Leinster player in the opening set in the final, winning it 21-12. The feisty Sara rallied more in the second set as she took it 17-21. This left the arena with a final set thriller with both girls pushing each other to the four corners of the court. Ciara was 11-9 at the mid point and then continued to race to 20-16 almost at the close. Sara dug deep as she clawed back the score to 20-20 as Ciara seemed to tire but with no expression change on the Ennis girls face they proceeded to 21-21,22-22 and then 24-22 as Ciara took the title from the very hard working Sara. Both players must be commended for their super on court manner and play and on this outing it went to the Munster girl.” Well Done Ciara” and “Hard Luck Sara”

Once again Ciara Dwyer was on court in the girls doubles round robin decider, she was partnered by fellow school mate Megan Bredin another talented lefthander. Their opponents were the very young Kate Frost and Nora O’Gorman. All four girls used all their badminton skill to take the title but on this day the Ennis duo took the title 30-27. Ailbhe Fusco won the girls singles plate final.
