U12 Leinster Spring Juvenile Open Terenure 13-3-2010
Leinster’s Sam McKay and Stevie Pitt Lennon double up !!....
The U12 Spring Juvenile Open was held early Saturday morning with a good entry from Lisburn, Sligo, Wexford and Ennis. The boy’s singles was between No.1 seed Leinster’s Sam McKay and ¾ seed Ulster’s Craig Getty. Both boys battled hard on court but on this outing McKay took the title 21-5, 21-8.
Once again both boys were on opposite sides of the court in the boys doubles final. Craig was partnered by Singles plate winner Niall Armstrong and Sam was partnered by long time partner Paul Reynolds. The opening set was a class opener and a thriller game to watch with all four future stars showing immense skill on court which is a credit to all the hard work put in by each player, not forgetting their parents and coaches. The opener narrowly went to the Leinster pair 24-22 and although the second set matched the first for skill, Sam and Paul took the second set and the prize 21-17, but I am sure when these four meet in the future it’s anyone guess who might take the title.
The girl’s singles was once again between Leinster and Ulster. Phoenix’s BC, Stevie Pitt Lennon took on the very very young Lisburn’s Rachael Woods. Both girls played some of their best badminton but the slightly stronger Stevie Pitt took the title 21-9, 21-16.
The girls were back on court again in the doubles Round Robin decider. Stevie Pitt was partnered by Sligo’s Claire Leahy their opponents were twin sisters 9 year old Rachael and Rebecca Woods. Both sets of girls had won their previous matches in the group and this match went right down to the wire with the Lisburn pair narrowly loosing by 2 points (30-28). Stevie Pitt took her second title and in the singles plate Lydia Mcgee took her first ever singles title.
