Leinster Senior Team into the Play Off's of English ICC Championships..Results

Saturday Match Result Leinster bt Wiltshire 9-6......
Sunday Match Result Wiltshire bt Leinster 8-7...
Leinster are into the play off's scheduled to be played on the Weekend 1&2 May 2010

Team Manger Joe Ledwidge reports on saturday match....Leinster got off to as slippery a start as the hall in Wiltshire. After the four singles Leinster were 4-0 down!! Not the start that we were looking for in such a big match between the two top of table teams.

The doubles didn't look like it was going to go Leinsters way either with the team losing the first set in two of the four matches. With some good play throughout the team the match was levelled at four games each to put the team right back in the match!!

In the second round of doubles again Leinster came out on top winning both reverse mens and picking up one iof the ladies left us on 7 games to 5 with just the three mixed to go.

The mixed was always going to be a tough test with this Wiltshire team know to have stong mixed having taken all three mixed against Glouchester last weekend to finish out a bonus point 10 5 win!!

The mixed started well with Karen Bing and David Gannon having a convincing win at second, Another win at third for Leinster’s Kirsty Kelly partnered with myself had a tighter two set win. This left it 9-5 and a possible bonus point for Leinster if they could secure first mixed. This was a great games between Leinster's Keelin Fox and Mark Topping and Sean Locke Jackie Russel from Wiltshire. The Wiltshire pair took the first set and the Leinster pair won convincingly in the second. In the final set Wiltshire just got their noses in front and took the decider 21-18

This leaves it mathematically possible for Wiltshire to get ahead of Leinster but a few games tomorrow will see Leinster into the play-offs!!

This was a great performance by all players and it was great as manager to see the effort put in by all!!

Leinster will play their final two group matches of this year’s English ICC Competition against Wiltshire in The Christie Miller Sports Centre in Wiltshire on Sat 6th & Sun 7th of March. The two teams are currently first and second in the group. Leinster have taken maximum points from the six games they have played, Wiltshire have four wins from four so this really is the group decider.

The winners of each Division 1 group go on to a play-off weekend on the 1^st and 2^nd May where the four group winners play-off for the two available places in the Premier B Division of the competition for the 2010/2011 season.

This match sees the return from Injury of Will O’Neill. Will was unavailable for Leinster’s last match with Avon after the recurrence of an injury in the Irish Nationals in February.

Also included in the team is Niall Tierney who is just back from playing his part for Ireland in European Mens Team Championships (Thomas Cup) in Warsaw Poland

In the Ladies Leinster are delighted to have Keelin Fox and Karen Bing available to travel after their excellent performance in the Irish Nationals where they took the Ladies Doubles title.

Unfortunately this time the team will travel without the services of Fiona Glennon. Fiona has been a stalwart member of this team over the last number of years and has played a central role in the teams successful promotion efforts so far. All involved wish Fiona a speedy recovery from injury.
