Saturdays match was played in Mount Pleasant and I’d like to thank the club for the use of their facilities on the day. With more than half the players playing for the Mt P club it was most certainly a “home” tie. Leinster started well and took three of the four singles. In the doubles the team continued in the same vain and took a total of seven of the eight matches. Now on a total of 10 maximum points had been secured before the three mixed had been played. The team did not let up and took all three mixed for a final score of 13-2
Sunday’s venue was Baldoyle and along with the change of venue there were also some changes in personnel. This time the team got off to an even better start taking all four of the singles. New Senior Cap Eddie Cousins won a tough second singles in a long three set match.
The doubles again went to plan Leinster taking a total of seven of the eight matches. Kirsty Kelly the second player to be getting a first Leinster Senior cap come into the team for Sunday and teamed up with Karen Bing. The ladies on the team completed an impressive performance– in four ladies singles and eight ladies doubles over two days the girls did not lose a single match!
With the mixed still to be played the match score was at 11-1 and the team had made sure of all 6 ICC league points. On the day only two of the three mixed were won for a second day final score of 13-2.
I’d like to thank the Avon players for travelling to Dublin for the match and while the score line looks convincing there were many three set matches on both days with Leinster may be getting the slight edge having had the home advantage.
