U19 Dublin Schools Finals in The Terenure Centre "Results"

School's battle it out on court...... St Colmcilles Girls..

Thursday 21st of January in the Terenure Centre saw the start of the Schools Finals. This date was rescheduled due to the bad weather in early January. It was the finals of the Dublin U19 Schools. 11 schools attended the 12th; Wesley College Girls Division 2 team did not turn up giving Our Lady’s Templeogue a walk over. Some of these teams will possibly meet again in the Leinster finals scheduled for Tuesday 26th January in the Baldoyle Centre. Teams that win next Tuesday’s finals will represent Leinster in the “All Ireland Schools” in Gormanston College on March 24th 2010.

In the boys Div1 section the All Ireland favourites Terenure College team took on Gormanston (A). Terenure had a 6-0 win although Terenure’s captain Diarmud Cox picked up an injury during his singles match, they were able to substitute Michael Sommerville for the second boys doubles. The Terenure team was Diarmud Cox, Adam Jermyn, Graham Doyle, Rory Curry and the Gormanston College team was Neill O’Flaherty, Ciaran Brown, Vernon Chen and Thomas Prendergast.

The girl’s final in the same division was between Mt Sackville and St Mary’s Naas. Although some of the matches were competitively fought Mt Sackville romped home to a 6-0 win. The winner’s team were Ciana Diskin, Orla Fox, Sinead Dolan, Siun McLoughlan (Sub) and Anne Heery. The Naas team was captained by Fiona Trant, Aisling Whyte, Amy O’Hara and Noeleen Fleming.

Division 2 boy’s match was a thriller with Ard Scoil Ris taking on Gormanton College “B” team. This was a nail biting match with the scores 3-3 at the finish. It then went to points count back with Ard Scoil Ris narrowly winning this outing by 6 points (146-140).Ard Scoil captain Alan Parks and his team Cian Fusco, Paul McGee and Jack Smith might meet the Dundalk team again in the Leinster finals next Tuesday. On the Gormanston College team was Ray Williams (capt), Shane Curran, Alex McGonagle and Conor Donegan. As I said earlier there was no girl’s final played in this section as Wesley College did not turn up.

The division 3 section is a development section and in the boys group, the strong Sandford Park School took on the new kids in the block De la Salle Churchtown team. Sandford’s Ivan Yu (capt), Matthew Tector, Singuil and James Esse were too strong on the day. Their courageous opponents were Paul Kenny, Donal Swan, Emmet McGinnity and S T Meadows. Sandford took the title 6-0.

Once again the day was finished off with a nail biting match between St Colmcilles and Mt Sackville (B). With 3-3 at the close the Knocklyon girls of Leonie Dunne, Mairead Fanning, twins Sara and Kate Fitzharris took the title from the Sackville girls of Jane Lynch (capt), Niamh Emery, Marie Spillane and Ellen Kearney.
The final score was 3-3,171-141pts a tight win to Knocklyon.
