Seventeen clubs travelled to Galway to play in a weekend feast of badminton. Eight teams entered Div 1 and 9 teams entered the Div 2 sections. Last year in Div 1 Raphoe from Donegal narrowly beat Alpha, once again Alpha made it all the way to the final but this time their opponents were Taghmon (Wexford). Alpha was lead by Greg Kavanagh and with fellow teamates, Tony Stephenson, Mathew Gleave, Sam Clegg, Stephen Galway, Jackie Kearon, Donna Scott, Sinead Chambers and Emma Callow and went on to take the Junior Cup title.
In the Div 2 section, Carlow YM came up against Kingdom (Kerry). Although Kingdom got an early 2-0 lead, the very experienced Leinster club clawed matches back and went on to clinch the title in the last game (4-3). Congratulations must go to Carlow’s YM team Eamonn Porter, Alan Braithwaite, Willie Stevenson, Aubrey Cox, David Glynn, Charlotte Porter, Deirdre Glennon, Sylvia Campion, Helen Eager and Norma Storey.
