Leinster U16 Schools Finals - Baldoyle 07.02.08

No real surprises at the Leinster U/16 Division: 1 School Finals in the Baldoyle Badminton Centre...

In the boys section the strong Terenure College team of Rory Curry, Adam Jermyn, Graham Doyle and Diarmud Cox took on Gormanston College boys of Neil O Flaherty, Ciaran Brown, Ray Williams and Conor Donegan. Although the opening game went to Gormanston College with Neil O Flaherty beating Adam Jermyn 30-25 (3 days earlier Jermyn had beaten O'Flaherty in the Dublin Finals), the rest of the Terenure boys went on to win their singles games comfortably, and both doubles matches went to Terenure College also with the final score 5-1. This Terenure College team will join their U /19 school mates that have  already qualified for the All Ireland Finals in Gormanton College on the 12th March 08.

In the Girls Division 1 Cathy Davis, Katy Fingleton, Anna Burlinghan and Michelle McCourt of St Vincent's Dundalk went on to win the round robin section. The Dublin Schools of St Colmcilles and St Mary’s Glasinevin had to battle it out for the runner up spot and it went to the St Colmcille girl’s of Mairead Fanning, Leoine Dunne, Sarah Murray and Kate Fitzharris.

The boys division 2 section was also a round robin event, with the Wesley College boy’s of Graeme Barrett, Karl Roe, Colm Farrell, Sam Banks and Mark Wright getting to the top of the section. They earned another day off school as they also qualify for the All Irelands. Unfortunately runners up, Good Council New Ross will have to try again next year. Wexfords girls in the same section went on to win a place on Finals day, Loreto girls, Kate O’Gorman, Ciara and Eimear Dunne, Shannon McGrath and Clodagh Kent all worked hard on court to earn a place at the All Irelands. Wesley College girls got the runner up spot.

In the development section of division 3, the boy’s winners were Gormantons College and Dundalk Grammer got the silver position, and in the girls section St Vincent Dundalk “B” won the gold and Scoil Arrigale Bally hale silver.

Thanks to the organisers Paddy Harte and to his helpers Mr And Mrs Carson, I would like to wish all the Leinster winners “All the Best” on finals day.
