Although there was a poor entry in some age groups, some dedicated competitors still travelled from Wexford to the event. The Youth Activity Committee members running the event made everybody welcome, especially those competitors who were playing in their first Badminton tournament ever.

At the U/11 age group Stephen Moran and Molly Dowling won the boy and girl singles event.  At the U/13 section, Aishling Kinsella and Eoin Henessy did likewise and won their singles at the older age group.

The U/15’s had the biggest entry of competitors over the weekend, a number of new faces were noticed at this age group which was great to see. St Colmcilles Mark White went on to win the boys singles by beating Paul Doherty 30-21. In the girls final Rebecca Sexton played Niamh Dunne in the girls final, Rebecca went on to take the title 30-20.

In the oldest age group of U/17, sisters Kate and Karen Shaw met each other in the girls singles final. These two sisters played excellent badminton and both fought for every point, but Kate edged ahead in the final stages of the match and won the title 30-26. Likewise in the Boy’s U/17 final Daire Mc Kiernan and Colm Farrell had a hard fought match, Mc Kiernan had a few extra shots in his armoury and went on to win the title 30-24. Mc Kiernan also made it a double win when he teamed up with Alan Richardson to take the doubles title also.
