Leinster Juvenile Close 27-29th Dec '07

On finals day, David Hogan, Chairman of the YAC’s Committee thanked the competitors, parents and organisers for making the Leinster Juvenile Close run so smoothly. A special “thanks” went to Amanda Mullery who ran the tournament sharply over the three days. David also made an apology for our President Breda Connolly, who could not attend the finals, as she was sick. Speedy recovery Breda.

Although there were many competitors who got themselves into multiple finals at various age groups (results below), there were only three guys who walked away with a trice of winning trophies. Leinster’s and Ireland’s Owen Marron took his first title in the U/17 boys singles by beating his fellow Irish and doubles partner Luke Moore. Luke also made all three finals but was not successful on this occasion in collecting a winner’s trophy in singles or mixed, while Owen won doubles with Luke and mixed with Irelands Crona Rooney.

In the U/13 age group, both Nicholas Murphy (Wexford) and Rachael Boyle (Dublin) collected three winners’ trophies each. Murphy secured his second title against Dublin’s Ian Patterson in the boys singles final after teaming up with him a day previous to win the boys doubles round robin event. Murphy then paired with Rachael Boyle to take the mixed final title. Rachael had earlier picked up the girls singles trophy against Fiounnla McCourt, who she also won the doubles title with, thus giving Boyle a hat trick of titles also.

Other "Star's of the Future" who won double titles were Jane Killoch, Michelle McCourt and Crona Rooney, congratulations to all the finalists !!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year.
