"B” Juvenile Tournament (Terenure Centre) Sunday 2-12-07

On Sunday morning, the Terenure Badminton Centre was awash with eager U/11 badminton players. This age group in particular needs a lot of help to run as some of the players probably never played a badminton tournament before, so I must also thank those parents who helped to run some of the round robins around the courts.

In the U/11 boys singles final CiaranMcHale took on David Gavin, these two badminton gladiators’ played some talented badminton and McHale etched ahead and took the trophy 21-15.

The boys doubles was run as a round robin and the winners were Michael Ryan, Donal Grogan, and the runners up were Tom Gleeson and Paul Tonge.

In the girl’s singles Caroline Macken played against Molly Dowling, I hope the Leinster selectors’ were watching as these two players have great potential. Dowling took the title, but I am sure Macken will be in many more finals in her badminton career.

For the girls doubles Macken teamed up with Ailbhe Fusco, who comes from a family who has played badminton for many generations. Once again Macken and Dowling were opposite sides when it came to the final stages of the round robin event. Macken and Fusco took the title with Dowling partnered by Grace Hanley taking up the silver position.

A special thanks must go the organisers who gave up their weekend to help run this tournament. (“Thanks” YACS)
