Morgan Wins Away

Young Jim Morgan (Pembroke B.C.) took the Mixed Doubles Title in the Cumbrian Classic last weekend. Jim travelled to Carlisle with a few of his Northern Ireland colleagues - Nelson McDowell, Ciaran McMahon and Christine Graham.

In the Men’s Doubles 60+ yrs event, Jim and his doubles partner Ken Tantum (Nottingham) became runner up when they were narrowly beaten by Sam Matoza (Lancashire) and Graham Moscrop (Northumberland).

Once again Jim reached another final, this time it was the mixed round robin final. His opponents were the No.1 seeds Ray Sharp (who won the Irish Open Singles in 1969) and Kent’s Rena Jones. Jim partnered by Scotland’s Margaret Gibson ran out winners 21-17, 21-19.

Jim who is playing some of his best badminton of recent years, is now preparing for the next away Veteran Tournament which will take place at the Northumberland Open on 27/28 Oct 2007.
