In the boys singles event there was an upset in the opening round when the No. 2 seed Owen Marron was pushed aside by fellow Irish teamate Simon Shannon 17-21, 21-17, 21-17. Ireland’s Tony Stephenson went on to win the singles. Marron had a second chance of getting a prize when he and his partner Luke Moore, the No.1 seeds for the boy’s doubles met Stephenson and Chris Scott in the final. However the Northern pair brought the game to 3 sets and eventually clinched the title 21-17, 13-21, and 21-14.
In the Girls doubles the Irish selected Laura Butler and Ciara Brady were No. 1 seeds, with fellow Leinster Players, Caroline Oliver and Crona Rooney at No. 2. The final was as per seeds and the second seeded Dublin girls secured the title by winning 19-21, 21-16, 21-11. This made it a double win for Oliver. Rooney went on to make her own double success when she teamed up with Marron to beat Oliver and Scott in a closely fought out mixed final 3 setter, 21-18,23-25,21-17.
