Mount Pleasant Open

As in previous years the "Mt Pleasant Open" launched a new badminton season, although there was a poor entry due to committee organisational difficulties, the event still went ahead with great enthusiasm. Special thanks must go to Noel Prendergast, Siobhan Grehan and Joy Acheson who at a weeks notice stepped in and organised the event that ran so smoothly over the two days.

16 year old Tony Stephenson from Lisburn took the men’s singles title from the slightly older Dubliner Mark Donnelly, who is only 18, but I am sure these gladiators will meet many times again during this coming season

Aoife Ahern from the Mt Pleasant Club made it a hat trick of titles by beating the young Wexford girl Laura Lynch for the ladies singles prize, then Aoife paired up with Lucie Corcoran to take the doubles. To finish off a good days work Aoife partnered by Mark Topping made it a trice of titles on the day. Mark also had completed the double as he had earlier won the men’s doubles with Brian McG
