On Saturday (24/3/07) the match in Baldoyle Badminton Centre was a competitive affair, where the highlight was a very close 3 set win for Ross McNiven (Wexford) at 2nd Men’s Singles. Ross won the match 19-21 21-16 24-22. Leinster eventually won 12 matches to 3.
On Sunday (25/3/07) in Whitehall Road Leinster gave debuts to 4 young and upcoming players. They were Laura Butler, Laura Lynch, Ciara Brady and Mark Donnelly. All four players remained unbeaten with the stand out win for Laura Butler and Laura Lynch in their 2nd ladies doubles match. They beat an experienced Somerset ladies pair in 3 sets 14-21 21-16 21-15. This win should build confidence for both players heading into an important weekend representing Leinster U17 team in Nottingham in April.
Mark Donnelly had a high quality match at number 1 singles for Leinster against Olly Crichton. There was some super attacking and retrieving play on show from both players. Mark's aggressive game plan finally came through for Leinster 21-17 21-18.
Ciara Brady also had an excellent win at 2nd Ladies Singles for Leinster. Ciara showed great determination to overcome Cath Vigar of Somerset 21-11 21-9.
Georgina Ward (Leinster Team Manager) was delighted with the player’s performance and gaining promotion to Division 2. This makes 4 promotions in a row as the Leinster team charge back up the league.
The last 2 matches for Leinster this season will be played in Dublin on the 14th and 15th of April 2007 against Hampshire.
