Interprovincial Series 3/4th March 2007

Last Sat & Sun 3/4 March 07, over 200 hundred of Ireland’s top badminton players of all age groups descended on the Baldoyle Badminton Centre. From the four corners of Ireland, teams travelled from Munster, Connacht, Ulster and Leinster to play against each other at various age groups U/13, U15, U/17, Junior, Senior and Vets 40+, and Vets 50+.

At the under age groups, Ulster were really unchallenged, with the Northern Ireland province picking up the titles at U/13, U/15 and U/17 age groups. At Junior Level Leinster won their 1st title by beating Ulster 6-4 in a super match. The Junior Leinster team was managed by Wexfords Georgina Ward; the team was Siobhan Grehan, Siobhan Parle, Deidre Keogh, Niall Tierney, Ross McNevin, Eddie Cousins, Will O Neill, Mark Donnelly and Mark Cobbe.

At Senior level, Ulster once again took the lead against Leinster by winning all their opening singles games giving them a comfortable lead of 4-0 , and despite Leinsters gallant efforts Ulster went on to hold onto the Senior trophy for another year with a win of 7-3. The Ulster Senior winning team captained by Eugene McKenna was, Sam & Danial Magee, Andrew Shannon, Bryan Henderson, Dona Scott, Lisa Lynas, Erin Keery and Sinead Chambers.

In the veterans section there was two age groups and at the 40+ age group, this match went down to the wire with the match levelling out at 6-6, so on a points count back, Ulster narrowly won the title with a points win of 415-367 pts. Finally at 50+ sections, Leinster got their 2nd win of the day with a 7-2 win against Ulster, but it has to be said that Ulster travelled back to the North with 5 out of the possible 7 trophies.
