Leinster Disappointment English Inter Counies

As a member of the Leinster Team over the past few years , I am really disappointed to see we lost both matches last weekend. We have reached an ok level now in the inter counties but I still believe we could of won this section. But with 2 loses in a row it will be a uphill struggle. I have to admit it is good to see new faces on the team and the experience to them will be invaluable but my concern lies with the fact , is this event a pure developmental exercise or are we trying to get back to the 1st divsion were we belong? Looking at the results there was some very close matches but I did notice that we had a lot of scratch partnerships playing together which can be very daunnting when playing in this event.  This is why I believe any further squad sessions should involve a lot more gameplay and getting player's acustomed to each other as you never know when you may be required in the future to play with somebody other than your normal partner.

Fingers crossed we can get a great result this weekend against probably the strongest team in the section Yorkshire which may help us get enough points to get promoted.

If anyone has any different opinions it would be great here from you , especially those who have played over the last few years. This is a great event for the up and coming young players and I hope we can blood these in the future. But we have to get the right balance of team between experienced and development !!!! otherwise it could cost the leinster branch a lot of money.

Re: Leinster Disappointment English Inter Counies

I have to agree with you there DG!..

The fact that Leinster is back up in division 2 is good but there are still 3 divisions above it. I think that using the team as a developmental exercise is well and good if starting in division 5  where every new team in the league must start. However, in order to build on the quality of seniors in Leinster, I believe a second team should go in next season and that the first team should go for promotion over the next 2-3 seasons to get back into Premier A where they were a number of years ago.

This second team can be used as a 'blooding' ground for those developmental players that the selectors believe have what it takes to carry the team up through the divisions.

As always, you will have a line of detractors complaining about the costs of putting teams in the UK Inter-County setup but Leinster's job is to promote and develop the game as well as administration of the provincial area.

Its actually cheaper to have a team in Premier A or B than in divisions 1 to 5!!...

I have suggested that fundraising and sponsorship are needed and this is possible with a few bodies working together. A Leinster Golf Classic will soon be on its way as part of this.

The more players exposed to the UK setup, the better. If you have Leinster players getting up to Premier B, for example, they would be playing (in this years case) Nathan Robertson, Gail Emms, Donna Kellogg, Rajiv Ouesph whom are all on the worldwide international circuit with 3 of them inside the top 8 in doubles in the world. This can only benefit the Leinster players and this in turn will feed back down to other players etc.
